In honor of International Women’s Day, we would like to celebrate our fearless and humble leader, Liz Schloss.

 

Which powerful women inspire you the most?

My Mother inspires me the most as she is one of the smartest and hardworking women I know.  She has taught me the value of work ethic, honesty, integrity and most importantly, treating people with respect and kindness.  My two sisters don’t fall too far behind as they have taught me the value of relationships and regardless of the talent or passion one has to offer, everyone has a place in this world.  Lastly, I am constantly inspired by women who represent a purpose and/or passion with quiet confidence.  I have a deep admiration for women who set themselves apart by expressing their unique qualities and embracing who they are as an individual.

 

The percentage of women in leadership roles at multifamily and commercial real estate companies is well below 20%. What career advice do you have for women who aspire to be in a leadership role in the Multifamily industry?

Be a master in your space, be confident in what you have to offer, work hard and most importantly, stay committed to acting with integrity and character.

 

Generally speaking, men continue to dominate leadership roles – As recently as 1995, there weren’t even any female CEOs on the Fortune 500 list. We have absolutely made some progress, but what are some of the challenges you face as the female President of a company?

I am truly grateful I work in an organization where I have never felt as if my gender has presented challenges for me.  Although gender inequality still exists in the professional world today,  we need to continue to encourage people to go beyond stereotypes and recognize the contributions that each individual can make to the workplace.
